An absolutely stunning antique 9ct yellow and rose gold amethyst and seed pearl lavalière necklace from around the 1900s. A lavalière is an openwork lacy or garland style pendant necklace with a dangling gemstone or pearl. The style originated in the 17th century and is named after Louise Françoise de La Baume Le Blanc, Duchesse de La Vallière (1644-1710) and mistress of Louis XIV. The design became very popular in Europe around 1900.
This beautiful ornate lavalière features 9ct yellow gold scrolls with 3 floral designs set onto bars with a total of 6 small seed pearls on the petals. The decorative bars also have 5 rose gold beads. There are a further 3 graduated seed pearls set into a curved chevron below with millgrain detailing either side. A 4mm purple amethyst gemstone is suspended at the bottom of the design synonymous with a lavalière.
The lavalière comes with a matching vintage 46cm (18″) 9ct rose gold curb chain and the ensemble weighs a hefty 3.8g in total. A perfect wedding day, anniversary or Valentine gift.
