A TRUE RARE ANTIQUE CHARLES HORNER COLLECTORS PIECE!
Charles Horner from Yorkshire, England was a prominent jeweller in the late 19th Century. His business was founded in 1860 and was known as Charles Horner of Halifax. Although the company was known for producing a wide range of jewellery and silver objects, they were particularly recognised for their silver thimbles and Art Nouveau enamelled pendants. After their father’s death in 1896, his two sons – James Dobson and Charles Henry Horner, took over the company and it continued to trade until 1984.
Normally crafted in sterling silver these repousé star charms were popular Charles Horner pieces from 1900 -1920 but it is extremely rare to find one in 9ct gold. This piece hallmarked by the Chester Assay Office in 1910 is in excellent condition, the star points are not worn and the repoussé work is perfect. The star has a poppy jasper cabochon prong set into the centre which is unblemished. The Chester Assay Office was an official Assay Office from 1700 until 1962.
