A beautiful 9ct gold vintage dagger charm dated 1971 with a hidden surprise. The pendant charm opens to reveal a pointed dagger from it’s jewelled sheath. The 9ct yellow gold work is superbly ornate with applied rope work and texturing which is worked on both sides of the sheath and the hilt. The charm is set with a variety of gemstones resembling sapphires, emeralds and rubies (see note above). The small dagger pulls from the sheath (secured by the 9ct gold safety chain) and bears a full UK hallmark by the London Assay Office at Goldsmiths Hall for 9ct gold, the year mark for 1971 and the makers mark FM. This is likely Fred Manshaw Ltd, manufacturing jewellers based in London EC1, who were famous for making charms in the 1960 and 70s. Vintage Fred Manshaw charms, especially those with hallmarks indicating their age and origin (i.e. the London assay office and year marks), are particularly sought after. His work is known for its detailed designs and high quality, making his charms highly desirable to collectors. This would look stunning on a 9ct gold chain.
