This very pretty 9ct gold Victorian style acrostic ring contains seven gemstones; a diamond, two emeralds, an amethyst, a ruby, a sapphire and a tourmaline. Together the first letter of each gem spells out the word ‘DEAREST’. Acrostic jewellery was at the height of popularity during the Victorian era although it is thought to have originated in Paris around the early 1800s by Jean-Baptiste Mellerio. The jewellery was used to express secret, romantic messages spelt out in gemstones to their beloved during a time when there were strict rules and restrictions surrounding a couple’s courtship. A perfect anniversary ring, promise ring or stacking ring.
