This superb condition masonic ball/orb, these are sometimes referred to as golden globes, has been beautifully crafted with a solid 9 carat gold frame and outer with solid gilded silver interior. The gold frame features four arms with shaped terminals. With flush-fitting hinges, each section interlocks and when opened, six tiny interlocking pyramids unfold to reveal each of their faces engraved with masonic symbols. The masonic orb’s spherical shape is often interpreted as a representation of the universe. Inside the orb, the cross symbolises the four cardinal points, emphasising the Masonic belief in the universality of their principles. Masonic balls were originally worn in the 19th century as a discreet way to show one’s membership to the Freemasons. This would look equally good suspended from a chain, as a charm on a bracelet or as originally worn, attached to a pocket watch.
